Baytown is part of Texas’ deregulated energy market, meaning residents can shop for electricity plans and rates. Instead of relying on a single provider, you can compare available plans and choose a retail electricity provider (REP) that aligns with your needs.
The average monthly kWh usage in Baytown is 1,228 kWh, but every household uses energy differently. Located near the Gulf Coast, Baytown experiences extended periods of heat and humidity throughout much of the year. Air conditioning often represents a significant portion of household electricity consumption, especially during the summer. Other factors, such as home size, insulation, appliance efficiency, and occupancy levels, can also influence monthly usage.
Because of this, you should review your historical average monthly electricity consumption to help you identify plan options that may fit your household's budget, lifestyle, and usage patterns.

Some homeowners prefer greater pricing consistency, while others may be interested in plan features tied to their usage habits or technology preferences. Gexa Energy offers several plan types that allow Baytown residents to compare options based on what matters most to them. Before deciding on any of the plans below, be sure to read the EFL for full details.
Fixed-rate plans have stable energy charges2 throughout your contract. This pricing structure makes your monthly bill more predictable and simplifies energy budgeting. Keep in mind that your bill can still fluctuate monthly based on your usage level and applicable fees outlined in your EFL.
Usage credit plans include a bill credit (a flat dollar amount, such as $50 or $75) when your monthly electricity usage reaches a qualifying threshold, like 1,000 kWh. Baytown households with relatively consistent usage may benefit from this plan type if they regularly meet the required kWh level.
Gexa’s free electricity plan has a specific period during which energy charges are reduced on weekends. This plan is often chosen by households that can shift more of their electricity usage to those designated times. However, it’s important to note that rates are often higher outside of those periods, and you might be responsible for paying other fees during free periods.
Some Gexa Energy electricity plans include smart thermostats and energy optimization tools that help customers stay connected to their home's energy activity. These plans provide additional visibility into usage patterns and allow Baytown residents to manage settings through the app.
Baytown homeowners with solar panels can explore solar buyback plans that provide bill credits for eligible excess electricity exported back to the grid. These plans are designed to help customers get more value from their solar energy systems.
Gexa Energy’s EV charging plans are designed for electric vehicle owners who usually charge at home overnight. They offer free energy for EV charging during specific overnight hours to help make home charging more cost-effective.
Variable-price plans have an energy charge that can increase or decrease each month based on market conditions and other factors set by your REP. They offer flexibility but typically have less predictable energy charges than fixed-rate options. Because of this, variable-price plans are often best for short-term energy needs.
Flat rate plans are designed to reduce month-to-month fluctuations in energy charges. Customers who prefer a more consistent billing experience throughout the year may find this structure appealing. Review the EFL carefully, as eligibility and usage requirements vary.
Before comparing Baytown electricity rates and plans, you need to understand how electricity service works in the city.
Baytown residents can choose a REP, such as Gexa Energy, to buy electricity from and manage their accounts. Electricity delivery is handled by the local TDU, CenterPoint Energy. While your REP handles billing, customer support, and plan options, the TDU maintains the local electric infrastructure, delivers electricity to your home, and responds to outages.
CenterPoint (and all other Texas TDUs) charges every customer in its service area delivery fees. These fees are regulated by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and are passed through to customers without markup.
Your monthly bill is shaped by a combination of usage patterns, weather, and plan design. While every home is different, several common factors tend to have the biggest impact.
Coastal climate: Baytown's long warm season can lead to higher electricity usage as air conditioning systems run more frequently.
Household size: More occupants generally means more electricity used for lighting, appliances, electronics, and laundry.
Home characteristics: Square footage, insulation levels, window efficiency, and the age of major systems can all affect energy consumption.
Plan features: Bill credits, free electricity periods, and other pricing structures can influence how charges appear on your monthly statement.
TDU delivery charges: Regulated delivery charges help support the operation and maintenance of the local electric grid and are included as part of your overall electricity costs.
Before comparing plans, spend a few minutes thinking about how electricity is used in your home. Baytown households can have very different usage profiles depending on the property's size, the number of occupants, and the equipment used each day. Consider:
Living space: Larger homes often require more electricity for cooling, lighting, and general household operations.
Climate control: Air conditioning can represent a significant portion of annual electricity usage in Baytown's warm, humid climate.
Daily routines: Households that spend more time at home may use more electricity throughout the day for electronics, appliances, and lighting.
Special equipment: Electric vehicles, pools, detached workshops, and secondary appliances can increase monthly consumption.
Electricity plans can differ in more ways than the advertised rate. Contract terms, bill credit opportunities, free electricity periods, smart thermostat benefits, and other plan features may all influence your overall experience.
Review the EFL for each plan you’re considering to see how pricing works, what charges apply, and which features are included. Taking a closer look at these details allows you to compare plans based on how your household actually uses electricity.
Power outages in Baytown should be reported to the town’s TDU, CenterPoint Energy. You can do so by calling 713-207-2222 or 800-332-7143 or using their online outage reporting system.
