Why EVs?

You may be wondering why it’s worth investing in an electric vehicle. Let’s take a look at some of the key benefits of owning an EV:

  • Environmental Impact: EVs support the environment by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving air quality, and increasing the use of renewable energy.
  • Potential to Save Money: You’ll save money on both gas and mechanical components as an EV owner. This is because EVs don’t use gas, and they have fewer mechanical components than traditional gas-powered vehicles. You can also take advantage of government EV incentives to save money as an EV owner.
  • Energy Efficiency: EVs are more efficient at converting energy into vehicle movement than traditional gas-powered vehicles. Gasoline engines waste a lot of energy as heat, whereas electric motors use a higher percentage of the battery to power the car.
  • Convenient Charging: Instead of stopping at gas stations to keep your EV moving, you can conveniently plug your EV in to charge at home at the end of the day or overnight. Public charging stations have also become increasingly accessible if you need to charge your EV while out and about.

EV Charging Plan FAQs

What is an EV electricity plan?

An EV electricity plan is an electricity pricing plan designed specifically for homeowners who own and charge electric vehicles. These plans usually offer tailored rates and benefits to help lower the cost of charging an EV at home.

Do EV electricity plans require you to have an EV?

No, REPs don't generally require you to have an EV to enroll on an EV electricity plan. However, these plans are specifically designed for people who charge their EVs at home, with benefits like discounted rates during off-peak hours. So if you aren't driving an EV and charging that EV at home, you will be unable to take advantage of these plans' benefits.

Can I use my own charger with Gexa’s EV charging programs?

Yes, you can use your own charger with Gexa’s EV programs. The programs are designed for drivers with Level 2 Chargers, and savings estimates are based on Level 2 charging speeds. However, you can also use a Level 1 Charger on the SavEV and EV Night Charge programs.

What are the three types of EV chargers?

There are three types of EV chargers, each offering different charging speeds. The most basic charger is the Level 1 charger, which is the slowest charging option and uses a standard household outlet. Next is the Level 2 Charger, which is much faster and requires a 240V electrical supply. The third type of EV charger is the Level 3 Charger—also known as a DC Fast Charger—which is the fastest and is usually found at public charging stations.
