Gexa Battery Benefits 12 Plan FAQs

Why does Gexa want to influence the behavior of my energy storage system?

It is Gexa’s goal to maximize the impact of the energy stored in your battery by discharging that energy into the grid when it is needed most. Not only does this benefit the grid, but it also benefits Gexa’s ability to serve you as an energy customer. By maximizing this value, we can compensate you with a $50 bill credit for every billing period you participate in the Battery Benefits service with Gexa.

Gexa will establish “events” that delineate at what point during the day your battery will be utilized. You will be able to track a record of these events and see when an event is currently ongoing in the Gexa Energy mobile app.

How will I know if my system is compatible?

The Battery Benefits product is currently compatible with SolarEdge and Enphase Energy battery inverters. You can determine the manufacturer of your energy storage system by looking up the system specifications for your installation. If your listed inverters are SolarEdge or Enphase, then you have a compatible system.

What is the compensation for participating in the Gexa Battery Benefits program?

Upon enrollment in Gexa Battery Benefits, Gexa will provide a $50 bill credit for every billing period your system is paired to our battery optimization services. This credit will be applied to your first invoice after enrollment, and every subsequent invoice through the term of your energy contract with Gexa Energy, provided you remain a customer in good standing. However, if you unpair your battery, Gexa reserves the right to disallow the bill credit for that billing period. You may opt out of the service at any time by contacting us.

Are there other features/ advantages of joining Gexa’s Battery Benefits service?

The Gexa Energy battery service actively reviews the weather forecast in your region through a national weather service which will indicate any potential inclement weather patterns. In the event the system does recognize a weather concern, Gexa Energy will charge your battery to full so that you have backup power in the event of an outage.

How will the incentives be paid to participants?

Incentives will be paid via bill credits directly on your Gexa Energy invoice.

When can I expect to receive the first incentive?

Your first incentive will be applied to your first invoice after enrollment and if your battery system is paired to the Battery Benefits service.

What if I no longer wish to participate in the Battery Benefits service?

If you no longer want to participate in the battery program, call 1 877-958-1498. But keep in mind, you will no longer receive the $50 monthly bill credit.

We would like to know more of why you have chosen to no longer participate. Would you mind sending your feedback to solar@gexaenergy.com?

Do I need to do anything to enable my battery to participate in events?

No, no action is needed on your part to dispatch your battery for events after you are enrolled.

Will I be notified when events are occurring?

During any Gexa-issued event, the Gexa Energy mobile app will clearly indicate that an event is occurring.

Will I be able to override during an event?

You will always be aware of a Gexa battery event in your mobile app and have the right to override control of your battery for that current battery event.

Opting out of an event may result in loss of bill credits for that billing period.

If I am not paired for the entirety of each month, what will happen?

By remaining paired for the duration of your billing period, you will receive a $50 bill credit. Gexa reserves the right to disqualify a customer from the bill credit if they do not remain paired for the entirety of the period.

Will there be any limitations on how Gexa controls my battery?

Yes, Gexa will always preserve at least 20% as your personal energy reserve. We will never discharge the battery below your set threshold. Further, our weather preparedness features will maximize your battery state of charge during inclement weather.

What if I switch to another Retail Electric Provider?

If you choose to switch to another REP, you will automatically be unenrolled from the product and will not receive any future incentives. The early termination fee for your electricity plan may apply. Gexa may take up to 15 days to unpair your device from our energy platform.

What if my inverter is not compatible? Can I still enroll on this plan?

Currently, our battery program only supports SolarEdge and Enphase Energy. But we do have a fantastic solar plan called Gexa Solar Buyback 12 that also offers credits for excess energy exported back to the power grid. We are working to increase the number of compatible inverters on the program. Please send us an email solar@gexaenergy.com with your inverter information and we will reach out to you as soon as your inverter becomes compatible.

What information is available in the Gexa Energy mobile app?

The Gexa mobile app provides charts to view grid consumption, solar production, excess export, and battery charge levels. During a battery event the app will indicate that Gexa is controlling your battery and show you where you can actively override our control if you choose to do so. Historical data on solar production, battery behavior, and your energy usage will be shown on charts and in easy-to-read data tables.
