Candlelighters
Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Family Alliance provides emotional, educational and practical support to families of children with cancer as they battle the disease and the financial burden inherited immediately upon diagnosis. Through fundraising and volunteer initiatives, Candlelighters provides for the various needs of families facing childhood cancer at no cost.
This year we are participating in the Adopt-A-Family program where we sponsor 4 families affected by childhood cancer and will provide holiday spirit to the patient, siblings and parents. Beyond the holiday support, we're also purchasing and stuffing toiletry bags for the hospitals to keep on hand in the event of families needing to stay overnight unexpectedly. These thoughtfully prepared care packages ensure that when families face sudden hospital stays during their child's treatment journey, they have access to essential comfort items without the added stress of rushing to gather supplies.
Habitat for Humanity
Houston Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. They bring communities together to help families build and improve places to call home, creating affordable homeownership opportunities for hardworking Houston families.
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Houston Habitat helps families build decent, affordable homes in partnership with future homeowners. Gexa employees have attended several builds this year and put in sweaty but incredibly fulfilling hours of construction work. Our teams have experienced firsthand the meaningful impact of building not just homes, but hope for Texas families - embodying our commitment to Texans serving Texans as we work together to strengthen our Houston community one home at a time.
The Beacon
The Beacon is an amazing organization that serves as Houston's lifeline for hundreds of unhoused men and women, providing not just daily necessities like shelter and meals, but also comprehensive support services including housing case management, program referrals, and civil legal aid.
Gexa volunteers have spent multiple days at the Ardel Ray Day Center preparing and serving hot meals, distributed toiletries and essentials, and assisting with washing and folding laundry. Beyond our hands-on volunteer work, our team has organized office-wide collection drives, gathering hotel toiletries, clothing donations, toothbrushes, and other essential items that we deliver directly to The Beacon to support their mission.
Kids Meals
Kids' Meals is a remarkable Houston organization dedicated to fighting childhood hunger by delivering nutritious meals directly to the homes of food-insecure children during weekends when school meals aren't available. They serve as a critical lifeline for thousands of Houston families, ensuring that vulnerable children have access to essential nutrition when they need it most. Their weekend meal program helps bridge the gap for children who rely on school breakfast and lunch programs during the week.
Through our in-office volunteer opportunity, Gexa team members can come together to decorate lunch bags, thoughtfully assemble and pack them with four essential food items, and prepare these nutritious meals for delivery to Houston families in need. It's a meaningful way for our team to directly impact childhood hunger in our community while working together toward a common goal of supporting our fellow Texans who need it most.
Houston Humane Society
The Houston Humane Society is an incredible organization dedicated to providing shelter, care, and second chances for animals in need throughout our community. Their comprehensive approach extends far beyond basic animal care - they operate vital programs including adoption services, foster care support, and educational outreach that help create lasting bonds between pets and families across Houston.
Our Gexa volunteers have embraced multiple opportunities to support this amazing organization, from spending meaningful days walking energetic dogs who were eager for attention and playing with purring cats who just wanted some love, to rolling up their sleeves to help stock shelves for the foster program. Our team has also gotten creative during lunch breaks, gathering to make over 200 handmade dog and cat toys that bring joy and enrichment to animals awaiting their forever homes. From walking adorable dogs to playing with purring cats and helping stock shelves for their foster program, our volunteers made tails wag and hearts happy while supporting the Houston Humane Society's mission of caring for vulnerable animals in our community
Make-A-Wish
Make-A-Wish Texas Gulf Coast & Louisiana creates life-changing wish experiences for children with critical illnesses, providing hope, strength, and joy during their most challenging times. Through the power of a wish, the organization brings communities together to help children and their families heal and find renewed courage for their journey ahead.
This year, Gexa Energy is proud to partner with Make-A-Wish to sponsor two children's wishes, helping transform their dreams into reality. Whether it's meeting a favorite celebrity, taking a magical family trip, or having a special experience, these wishes provide moments of pure happiness and hope that can be pivotal in a child's healing process. Our partnership reflects our deep commitment to supporting Texas families when they need it most, ensuring that even in the face of serious illness, childhood wonder and dreams can still come true.
