GEXA ENERGY INTRODUCES DEFERRED PAYMENT PROGRAM FOR LOW-INCOME RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMERS
Houston, TX - August 22, 2008
Gexa Energy has introduced a new bill payment assistance program which allows low-income residential customers to pay their electricity bills over a fourmonth period.
Qualified low-income residential customers who receive service from Gexa Energy can pay $100, or their entire bill, whichever amount is less for each bill that comes due until September 30. Any remaining amount will be moved to a four-month deferred payment program to begin October 1.
To qualify for the program, customers must be a current recipient of the state’s LITE-UP Texas discount, a program which provides a 20-percent discount through September 2008 for low-income residential electricity customers in areas participating in retail electric competition.
“I’m pleased to see Gexa Energy voluntarily reach out to help low-income customers for the remainder of the summer,” said Barry T. Smitherman, Chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas. “The addition of Gexa Energy to the roster of retail electric providers offering deferred payment plans means that over 80% of low-income customers living in competitive areas of Texas are now covered. I encourage other retail electric providers that have not done so to join in.”
Qualified customers can enroll in the deferred payment program by contacting Gexa Energy at 866-961-9399.
Residential customers are eligible for the LITE-UP Texas discount if their income is at or below 125 percent of the federal poverty guidelines or if the customer receives assistance from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission.
Gexa Energy (PUCT #10027) is a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of FPL Energy.
